John S. Calloway Buried Last Week
Well Known Jefferson Man Died of Pneumonia, Many Attended the Funeral
Funeral services were held last week at the Jefferson Methodist church for John Samuel Calloway, a well known citizen of Jefferson who died at his home Sunday, following an attack of pneumonia.
Mr. Calloway, who was a native of Ashe County, was a son of the late Rev. James N. and Catherine Calloway. He was born March 24, 1876, professing hope in Christ in early life and lived a devoted life in later years.
Services were conducted by Rev. Cicero Ashley, R.M. Burkett, R.H. Stone and others. Burial followed in the Jefferson cemetery. Neices of the deceased who served as flower girls were; Misses Hellen, Ruth and Gladys Shatley, Hattie Calloway, Mrs. C.J. Calloway, Mrs. Tom Burkett, of West Va., Blanche and Lousie Proctor, of Jefferson. Pall bearers were; Bower, Carl and John Lester Calloway; Paul Shatley, T.B. Burkett and James Johnson.
He is survived by the following brothers and sisters; Miss Effie M. and Charlie Calloway, of Jefferson; Mrs. J.H. Harris, of Mountain Park; Arthur Calloway, of Johnson City, Tenn., and Mrs. T.L. Shatley, of Jefferson.
