  INDIVIDUAL NOTES: 1880 Broome County, New York census (microfilm): - HH # 60, Windsor Township - Given name was Edson - Age 7, living with parents - Born in New York, father in New York, mother in New York -------------------- Article in The History of Broome County, by H. P. Smith published in 1885: Simpkins, Lewis J., p. o. Windsor, born in Afton, Chenango county in 1835, enlisted in Company E., 109th N. Y. Volunteers under Col. Tracy, in 1862, served about one year, was discharged for disability at Annapolis Junction; wife, Zadie Pike, daughter of Joseph and Lucy (Phillips) Pike, born in 1835, married in 1863; children three: James L., Edson I. and Flora E. Parents, Alanson and Betsey (Thompson) Simpkins, the former born in Green county in 1801, died in 1871, leaving five children, the latter born in 1806, married in 1828. -------------------- Obituary published in Press and Sun-Bulletin, Broome County, New York dated May 3, 1924: Windsor, May 3--Edson I. Simpkins, a lifelong resident of this village died at his home on Kent street Wednesday. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Miss Eva Simpkins of Patchogue, L. I., and Mrs. Harry P. Hupneau of South Windsor; a sister, Mrs. Bert Hickox of Dalton, Pal, and a brother, James Simpkins of Nineveh. The funeral was held at the home Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. For several years he conducted a hardware store and telephone exchange on Main street and for the last four years had been town superintendent of roads her.
