      Milton Lee Higdon

      Milton Lee Higdon, 77 of Fox Run Drive, Forest City, N.C., formerly of Franklin, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Hospice House of Forest City.
      He was a native of Franklin and the son of the late Lewis Lefferts and Ila Elliott Higdon.
      He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy at Chapel Hill. Milton moved to Forest City in 1955, where he began a 42-year career as a pharmacist at Smith's Drug Store in Forest City and was Christian and member of First Baptist Church. He also served his country during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Forest City Town Council for 21 years. Milton was a man of the utmost integrity and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
      Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Helen Dobbins Higdon of the home; three daughters, Tami Higdon of Gainesville, Fla., Shawn Higdon of Seneca, S.C., and Shelley Watts and husband Bobby of Mills River, N.C.; a sister, Marilyn Higdon Myers of Candler, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
      Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, in the First Baptist Church of Forest City, with Dr. Bobby D. Morrow and Rev. J. Anthony Spencer officiating. Interment followed in the Sunset Memorial Park.
      Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, at The Padgett and King Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 211 West Main St., Forest City, NC 28043 or Hospice of Rutherford County, P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043. The Padgett and King Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
